Energi Media with Markham Hislop

@EnergiMedia

This might seem totally niche but Markham Hislop and colleagues provide a rare objective insight from Western Canada focusing on energy that extends into scientific, industrial, political and social commentary. I caught it by accident and then became a subscriber. Sometimes it dives into aspects of the energy grid that might seem “nerdy” even, but I’ve learned so much about how our future is linked to a wider view of energy than simply an oil pipeline. And maybe because they are westerners, they can speak more frankly about all the players. They have a viewpoint, but they bring the data to support it. Might not be for everyone, but I’m addicted to it.  They also have a web page for those who can’t get enough.

Charlie Angus – The Resistance

@MeidasCanada

Charlie Angus, punk musician turned politician is one of the leading voices of what has come to be called “the resistance.”  Angus speaks out about the threat of the US not just economically but in the spread of what he calls a “fascist” state. Charlie is articulate, well read but he calls it like he sees it. And he doesn’t mince words and he doesn’t tolerate fools.

But Angus also is a passionate voice for community, for Canadian values and for bringing people together from coast to coast to coast. As much as he can be abrasive and blunt at times, he is warm, patient and engaging. You sort of get what you deserve from Angus. He’s a fierce defender of Canadian values. He’s our “consoler in chief” from those who might lose hope.

It’s subjective of course but it’s one of the very few podcasts that cover politics that when you are finished you feel better.

Bill Kelly Podcast

@TheBillKellyPodcast

Kelly says he has 5 decades in news broadcasting and it shows. He has a clear grasp of the news and issues. He obviously knows how to research a story and he must still have a lot of sources.

For those on the far right, he might not be your cup of tea, but from right of centre to centre left he is a credible news source.

And the voice…. clear, professional and always easy to listen to. Have a coffee with Bill Kelly and you walk away feeling better informed.

Claus Kellerman POV

@clauskellermanpov3004

Claus Kellerman offers a folksy but well thought out research and analysis of current Canadian events. He covers a wide range of current, political, economic and even occasionally social. In his words, “I will discuss Canadian related news with an effort to use facts and data. Let’s stay informed and remain positive.”

He keeps that promise  His work is factual, accurate and insightful. He has an opinion without seeming overly biased.

Guard The Leaf – The Original “Elbow’s Up” Chronicles

@GuardTheLeaf

This show is an unabashed detailing of the Canadian boycott of US travel, balanced with a passion for Canada. The host prefers to remain anonymous and has a self described “monotone” style. But in reality, he comes across as authentic and sincere.

He often has clips from accurate news sources and occasional interviews. He also promotes other Canadian shows. Currently he’s living outside Canada, but stays well connected.  He’s put together a real and passionate community that reminds me of Peter Gzowski or Stuart MacLean’s audiences, albeit not as large as those giants. But it has that Canadian vibe of people you’d like to know.
